Jen asked me to!

Yay! I get to talk about cloth diapers.

I use Fuzzi Bunz. I love them. Tommy loves them. Jude's bum loves them. We often use disposables on him for out-on-the-town good times, but(t) we just like Fuzzi Bunz so much better. They have snaps so you can adjust the leg and waist fit - so they will fit him for a long time. We aren't bothered by the little bit of extra work. Seriously, just peak at the goodness that is Fuzzi Bunz.

If you do use Fuzzi Bunz I can't recommend the mini shower contraption enough (took Tommy 1.7 minutes to install). You just use this to spray em off in the toilet, put em in the pail, and launder. Here's the one we have:

I have SO much to say regarding how I think that using cloth diapers is such a great option environmentally (Jude's world is a sacred place) and how I think his booty is thrilled with our decision, but I'll spare you. I'm much too out of shape to get on any soap box.
Fuzzi Bunz are completely unlike the diapers our Mommys used. They are almost fancy enough for a dinner party, with no sharp parts ... SUPER cute, come in lots of colors, and are crazy soft, too.
If you have ANY questions/experiences of your own, please feel free to ask/comment away! Happy diapering!

Happy Earth Day and 9 month birthday Judah!

My big boy can now stand for very very limited moments. As if he wasn't busy enough perfecting almost standing with help, Jude also filmed for his TV debut (which I will let you know about as soon as I find out more info). Yesterday he went on his first hike [6 miles, mom is proud (of herself and him) and sore!]. Today we went to an Earth festival and La Brea Tar Pits. Judah is a very busy person.

PLEASE VOTE FOR A NEW NAME FOR OUR BLOG! I've always wanted to do a poll and now my dream has finally come to fruition. Thanks for being a helper!

I'll post new so-cute-it-actually-hurts-me pics/videos soon.

Cheers,
Danni

Our love story on our 9 year meetaversary!

9 years ago today, I was living on Balboa Island with two of my childhood friends, Queeny and Christa.

Tommy had just graduated from UCSB and was living in Santa Barbara.

Queeny (who prefers to be called Colleen, but I’ve been friends with since I was twelve- so I can call her whatever I’d like) was dating (her now husband) Bradley (who I’ve also been friends with for forever, and who I adore, but don’t have any G-rated-blog-friendly names for).

(Brad, Tommy, Me, and Queeny)

Bradley mentioned that he had a roommate in college that I would get along really well with. Well, Bradley has interests, but medling in my love life was not characteristically one of them.
When I questioned his comments, he assured me, “I’m not going to do anything about it, (with a laugh) I just think that you two would get along.”
Queeny quickly assured me, "you will NOT like him. I've met him.”
Brad retorted,"I don't know what you're talking about. Chicks dig Tommy."

So, I just kind of forgot about the whole thing. A few weeks/months later, we decided to have a 70’s party. My roommates and I called some of our guy friends from high school who lived in Santa Barbara to invite them and told them to bring their roommates or anyone they’d like. At this moment, I honestly had forgotten about my previous odd conversation with Bradley.
Up in Santa Barbara, Tommy

(this is a picture I took shortly after we met. Don't fret love, you haven't changed a bit...and neither have I...:)

was asked by his roommate Eric

(one of the best fellows I know, who my roommates and I went to high school with, and I seriously dated for 47.5 hours in 6th grade, until he tried to kiss me, thus causing our whole dating relationship to be called off) if he wanted to go to a party down south. Tommy said he wanted to go…but later, Tommy came home from work and felt tired, so he told Eric that he no longer felt like it. Eric told Tommy that since he waited for him to get off work he now had to go, because if Tommy didn’t go, he’d have to drive alone (for story accuracy, I google mapped the drive, 2 hours 24 minutes and up to 3 hours 50 minutes in traffic, so Eric had a valid point)*. They drove down.
When I saw my old friends, I met them at their car, adorned in my 70's attire. Tommy stepped out of the car, reached his hand out to shake and said “Hi! My name’s Tommy.” I replied, “My name’s Danielle.”
Then he said, “Where should I put this beer?”
I showed him the fridge and we talked the rest of the night. He “got” me and embraced my strange sense of humor. 6 months later he asked me to marry him, 8 months after that we were married!

Since then, we’ve done so much together and had the best time. I can’t wait to see what the next 9 years has in store for us.

*This part of the story was included to highlight how close Tommy was to not coming.

Happy Meetaversary Tommy! I love you!

Here's some love, in case you're in need of a Jude fix:

The National Hot Rod Association Welcomes Jude!

Tommy works at a special place. The people there are simply wonderful. Supportive is too minimal a word to describe the group...Last Friday they threw Judah a welcome party- here are some pictures of the celebration. Thanks guys!

Happy 8 month birthday Jude (a couple of days late) and Happy Birthday Grandma (today)!

We love you!

I think being a parent is the most self indulgent thing I've ever done. I get tons of hugs and big open mouth kisses, snuggles, and countless smiles. I have the best reading and play partner ever. He doesn't complain about my singing (yet. I am extremely tone deaf, so this is temporary)and likes to dance with me. Judah is also the BEST alarm clock ever. Seriously. At 6:45 he wakes me up gently with soft coos and quiet da-da-ta-ta-gu's. There is no better way to start the day than that. Jude is the best friend a girl could ever have. Gosh, I just love every morsel of my sweet boy.

My two loves

I'm a very lucky girl!

It's the Easter Bunny!

Hangin with his cousins, Darrigan and Saoirse

Saoirse with her Auntie Danni!

Jude with his Uncle Danny!

Jude with his Auntie Gina!

Judah had a great time in Flagstaff!

The adventures of Judah!

Jude has been one busy fellow! Here's just a taste of what he's been up to! I'm going to have a very busy blogging week to catch up...

He had a very fun St. Patrick's Day! Hanging with his mom and dad

visited his Grandma and Great Grandma

played with Nathan and Ashley

was held by Auntie Lea

kissed by Ashley

held hands with Gabby

and hugged her

and kissed her (I tell you my son is a shameless flirt!)

was loved by GaGa Deb and Auntie Mish

brunched with good friends

danced with Bernadette

fell in love with sweet potatoes (if you can't tell by his curvacious figure, my baby loves to eat!)

and hung out with Auntie Heather

We came home from Flagstaff, AZ last night and I have some great pics to share. Just so you know, I am the type of sicko parent that actually dresses their child in a bunny outfit for their own amusement (I promised Jude that this would be the last year. I learned quickly that although he enjoys telling jokes and laughing at other people's jokes, he is NOT a fan of being laughed at).

Some thoughts...

I need to go back. I need to give something. Every time I look into those amazingly perfect and beautiful eyes, I am grateful to Ethiopia. Grateful for what they have given me. Which is everything. I search. I know I will return, but I need to plan an exact date. Set it in stone. I don’t forget those faces. I want to scream out that I remember them ... that I won't forget. I care and love. My love is not without action. I have to go back and I wish it was today. Although I knew before, I did not really know. I didn’t feel it with every cell. I avoided it because it was too much. Now I feel it so deeply. Now it consumes me. I feel so badly living in my world. Throwing away food just past date. Buying clothes although I have a closet full. I can’t believe this is the best me. I always hoped that since I try, that is something (e.g. I use cloth diapers, I’m in a “helping” profession, try to be a good friend, etc.), but I have never felt more useless. I hate this limbo. I will figure it out. I know it will be soon, it has to be.

By the way, I decided that my son is the best/strongest/most amazing/funniest/and most generous/kind person I've ever met. I'm more in love than I knew was possible. If you've met him, you completely understand why ... he's unique and special and extremely important. If you haven't met him, here's additional proof:
